Alessandro Scotti
Alessandro Scotti Italian, writer and photographer, worked in more than 25 countries for Time Magazine, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, Geo, Rolling Stone, Sportweek, Wall Street Journal, Expresso, Magazin Literario, Wired, Stern, Courier International and Afrique Magazine.
Worked as correspondent writer from throughout Europe for the press agency Italpress, and collaborated with the weekly supplements of daily newspapers Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica.
For six years he covered the main international paths of narco-traffic for a worldwide journalistic investigation on illicit drug routes and dynamics.
His feature stories have been awarded in Italy with the Amilcare Ponchielli Prize for the best Photographic Survey, in Germany with the Bronze Lead Award and with the Henry Nannen Prize, and in France with the 3PPP Grant conferred to ten “international photographers without age or nationality discrimination whose work and professional concern are well known, and whose photographic projects pertain to man in relation to his fellows, society, environment and contribute to our understanding of man in the 21st Century”.
In 2005 Alessandro Scotti was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as a recognition for his researches around the world. The title is conferred by the United Nations to “widely recognized talents in the arts, sciences, literature, entertainment, sport or other fields of public life (…) influential beyond their national borders”.
In such role Alessandro Scotti engaged voluntarily and free of charge in missions around the world for the United Nations.
Alessandro Scotti’s book publications include Narcotica – a 400 pages essay on his experience as an investigative journalist – Atelier La Scala – focusing on the elaborate work behind the scenes of the temple of opera La Scala – and a series of 3 illustrated books published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime under the title De Narcoticis.
International media and institutions have widely covered the Alessandro Scotti’s activities with interviews, articles and comments. His photographic work has been exposed in exhibitions around the world by museums and institutions such as the Triennale of Milan and the Biennale of Architecture in Venice. The author has given lectures and conferences in institutions and universities in several countries.
